Language of Love

I just returned from a writing retreat with Mirabai Starr’s Wild Heart Group deep in the tropical jungles of Quintana Roo, Mexico. Spirit was thick there. We moved within the unseen

viscosity of spiritual connection to the All. Each of us felt it in our own way.

We communicated through the “Language of the Heart” as Grandfather, the Apache shaman in Tom Brown Jr’s  Awakening Spirits names it. Grandfather teaches that the Language of the Heart communicates through visions, dreams, signs, symbols, emotions and feelings. I studied Awareness, Tracking and Survival with Tom.

As a school psychologist, one of my biggest hurdles to communication with kids was to teach them how to recognize their feelings and give them a name. I provided a list for recognition. I did this in my clinical practice as well. We are not taught this awareness in our western culture. Some cultures are better at it than others. As many of you know, in fact, we are taught to suppress the emerging emotions before we can even have time to learn what they have to teach us. The same is true of the other spiritual modes of communication. The Language of Love is banished, never to be articulated. Certainly, as many have said, our deep understanding of Love is impoverished. Recently I have had a powerful, raw and unfamiliar heart chakra experience. I am sitting with it, letting it teach me.

These are the stories I hope you will share here. Help us learn how Spirit reaches out.
